Sichuan Opera, one of China’s traditional opera genres, is popular in central and eastern Sichuan, Chongqing, as well as parts of Guizhou and Yunnan. One of its signature features is the “face-changing” technique, which is used to reveal the inner thoughts and emotional shifts of characters. This skill transforms abstract, invisible emotions and psychological states into visible and tangible representations through changing facial masks.
