The Wolong Giant Panda Breeding Center, established in the 1980s, was founded during a time of crisis for wildlife. In 2006, the center successfully bred 18 panda cubs, followed by 14 more the next year. Today, over 60 giant pandas live at Wolong, with an additional 80 pandas residing in zoos and research centers across China and around the world.
